What is conjunctivitis?

Conjunctivitis, commonly known as “pink eye,” is an inflammation of the conjunctiva, the clear tissue covering the white part of the eye. It can be caused by viruses, bacteria, allergens, or irritants.

What are the symptoms of conjunctivitis?

  • Red or pink eyes
  • Tearing or watery discharge
  • Itching or gritty sensation
  • Yellow or green discharge, causing eyelids to stick together
  • Swollen or irritated eyes

How is conjunctivitis treated?

  • Bacterial: Treated with antibiotic eye drops or ointments.
  • Viral: Often resolves on its own within a week.
  • Allergic: Managed with antihistamines and avoiding triggers.
  • Soothing Care: Gently clean the eyes with a warm cloth, and avoid rubbing.
