Specialist autism assessment and support in London and online, led by an experienced team of neurodevelopmental paediatricians, psychiatrists and allied health professionals.
At Kidswell Health, we provide comprehensive private autism (ASD) assessments for children and young people, available in clinic (Golders Green, North West London) and with certain elements available online, depending on what’s most appropriate.
Our assessments follow recognised clinical standards (including NICE guidance, where applicable), so you can feel confident the process is evidence-based, thorough and child-centred.
We follow an MDT-led approach, with involvement from multiple clinicians depending on the specific needs of each child. From Neurodevelopmental Paediatricians, such as Dr Nicole Horwitz, to Clinical Psychologists and Occupational Therapists.Â
We offer clear, reliable assessments alongside compassionate guidance and practical next steps. All within a calm, child-friendly environment designed to help children feel comfortable and understood.
Our autism assessment service includes:
Assessments led by highly experienced Consultant Neurodevelopmental Paediatricians, supported by our wider multidisciplinary team
A comprehensive assessment of your child’s development, strengths and support needs
ADOS-2 (a specialist autism assessment tool)
Appointments available in person or online (where appropriate)
Detailed reports with clear recommendations for home and school
Autism (Autism Spectrum Disorder, ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects communication, behaviour, sensory processing and how a child experiences the world.
Autistic children may communicate, learn or interact differently, and many also have real strengths, such as attention to detail, memory, creativity, honesty and strong interests.
A high-quality assessment can help families better understand their child’s needs, access the right support, and feel confident about the future.
Parents often contact us after noticing patterns such as:
Differences in communication (for example, late speech, limited gestures, unusual language, or difficulty with conversation)
Challenges with social interaction or making friends
Sensory sensitivities (noise, textures, clothing, food preferences)
Repetitive movements, routines or strong need for predictability
Very focused interests
Play differences (for example, lining toys up or preferring adults to children)
Emotional regulation challenges or frequent meltdowns
Difficulty with transitions or unexpected changes
School concerns relating to behaviour, attention, routines or social skills
We use a staged approach, which means you can start with an initial assessment first. A full autism diagnostic stage is only recommended if needed.
This staged pathway helps make sure families receive the right assessment and avoids unnecessary appointments.
Stage One provides a baseline understanding of your child’s development, strengths and challenges. It helps us decide whether a full autism assessment is recommended. Stage One typically includes:
Captures information from the people who know your child best.
To see how your child presents in a calm setting.
Review of any relevant medical and school information
We aim to send a detailed written report with our recommendations within two weeks.
If a full autism assessment is recommended, Stage Two involves a structured evaluation using internationally recognised diagnostic standards and validated assessment tools. Stage Two may include:
Helps explore social communication, behaviour and everyday needs.
Adds valuable insight from the classroom setting.
A structured play and conversation-based assessment used to better understand communication and behaviour (completed by a second clinician)
Clear findings and diagnosis with tailored recommendations. Recommendations may include parent training, additional assessments, or psychological support.
